There is no cover for this fantastic house party and the doors open at 2 p.m., so get there early or you might miss out. By sundown the event is usually packed. hotel cafe LA

If you’re visiting LA, the Hotel Café is a must-see venue. Located in the middle of Hollywood, this club will certainly make you feel at home. Sporting a dark, cool, and intimate atmosphere, the Hotel Café is a one-of-a-kind Hollywood location that’s free from busyness and pomp.

Lacking all forms of arrogance or the feeling of presumption, Hotel Café is as humble now as it was over twenty years ago. Starting out as a tiny coffee shop that didn’t even serve any alcohol, Hotel Café eventually made its was onto the map. Things really took off when Gary Jules drove by on his bicycle. Seeing an old piano in the window of the quaint café, Jules decided to ask if you could have a regular show every Tuesday night. Jules was already quite acclaimed after having his cover of Mad World featured in the cult-classic, Donnie Darko, and this quickly drew the attention of the locals. More and more people began performing at Hotel Café until the venue had a completely new feel: it was no longer a coffee shop, but was now a hit music venue.

Fast forward to the future and Hotel Café still hasn’t lost its soul. Despite its fame, Hotel Café still touts a bohemian, indie feel that keeps people coming back for more. Find it also on Yelp with formidable  4 ½ stars!

den of hollywood Bar

Let’s go to the legendary “strip”, to Sunset Boulevard of Hollywood. We find a cozy hangout place: The Den of Hollywood, amongst all tourist traps of Hollywood.
It is a bar and restaurant in one plus offering DJ music to make your party successful.
Chose from a classy-looking bar with high sofas and a relaxing ambiance, a quaint area with small tables and a picturesque fireplace, or a beautifully spacious patio area complete with a long rectangular fire pit.
The drinks and food is reasonably-priced but tasty like the “Badass BELT Hamburger” or “Crispy MacCheese Balls”. Of course they have an Happy hour daily from 5-7pm and weekends from 3-7pm with even gluten-free bread. There is no cover-charge to get in which is untypical for the Strip indeed. If you feel like singing, they offer Karaoke Wednesdays; if you feel like playing board games you will find them there. Yelpers decided to give the Den three stars.

Monday – Friday: 5:00 pm – 2:00 am
Saturday: 3:00 pm – 2:00 am
Sunday: 11 am – 2:00 am • Brunch until 3 pm

Johnny’s Bar

Johnnys Bar LA

Highland Park’s nightlife would be nothing without Johnny’s Bar, a kind of rural “dive bar”  with a taxidermy buck head on the wall, a foosball and a pool table.
Plus tons of cheap but good drinks. Some say it is the place to get a Bloody Mary, supposed to be the best one. Listen to the jukebox with songs of Prince, Bowie, Hendrix, various punk bands, soul music, and more. It’s not a typical biker hangout but has a grungy feel.
It’s also not the place for tourists; it’s the place to be loud and get your drink on. It gets crowded, especially on the weekend. The crowd is mixed and gave the local neighbor bar 4 stars.

The Woods

The Woods LA

Not all lounges are cozy especially not in LA. If you are looking for one, you don’t have to go as far as Big Bear, just go to Hollywood on LA Brea. The ski-lodge designed bar has become a popular dive bar with good and cheap drinks.
The Woods features a star lit sky and  the interior’s is comprised of several different wood applications, from its Pecky Cedar walls to it giant teak cocktail tables and two Elk antler chandeliers. Some love it, some hate it. There is no grey zone. The dark dive bar is “in”, yes, despite the fancy neo-cabin decor, and gives you the feel of  sitting in a forest. If you are lucky you might see Hollywood stars such as Emily Blunt who obviously likes the cozy atmosphere and the tree stumps tables.

The Black Boar

Black Boar LA

Enough of California? Visit the Black Boar Bar and you think you are in a rustic Colorado lodge that is the meeting point of all handsome ski and snowboard instructors who cannot afford to mingle with the Aspen crowd.
Nightlife at the Black Boar starts later, you can bring your own pizza and warm your cold hands at the fireplace. You will meet an interesting crowd of Eagle Rock locals who are in general mellow and friendly. Sometimes the food comes via some food trucks which are parking outside. Black Boar’s specialty are English drafts, including Fuller’s ESB, Old Speckled Hen, Murphy’s and Strongbow Cider. All beers go for $5 a pull and well drinks cost $6 each.  The Boar roars 4 stars.
