a club called rhonda los angeles

Club Rhonda is a dance party like no other in Los Angeles and potentially the world. Rhonda is a fictitious dance diva who is always jetsetting across the globe in search of the hottest DJs for her parties. Conceived as “an international mecca for hedonism in all the right ways,” according to co-founder Gregory Alexander A Club Called Rhonda hosts out of this world dance parties at a variety of venues throughout the Los Angeles area.

Locals or visitors who wish to attend one of Rhonda’s outrageous dance parties, filled with house and disco music and an array of interesting people, should check out their Web site to find out when and where the next A Club Called Rhonda party is being held. Rhonda is the brainchild of four native Angelenos who wanted to create the ultimate dance party. After brainstorming, researching and, of course, some heavy partying, Rhonda and her dance party were born.

In only four short years, A Club Called Rhonda has become synonymous with house music in the Los Angeles area and has featured live soundtracks from some of the best names in house music as well as some of the most talented DJs to spin house and disco music. Be prepared for a party of epic proportions if you’re planning a visit to one of Rhonda’s parties. To minimize wait time, RSVP for the party at rhondasays.net. Yelp gave A Club Called Rhonda four stars.

room 5 LA

ROOM 5 Lounge in Hollywood, close to Hancock park, is the venue for an eclectic mix of new music from hot area artists and cutting edge comedy together in an upscale, intimate atmosphere. In 1937 at the famous former “Swanee”, club owner Bob Lewis suggested that budding Jazz musician Nathaniel “Nat” Cole assemble a small band to work at his Swanee Inn. It is a cozy and quite small lounge, just right to listen to some good music. Open mic night supposed to be no entry fee, but you have insist on it.
The sequence could be: First dine downstairs at the Italian Amalfi Ristorante, then enjoy artists and bands in the genres of jazz, soul, singer/songwriter, country, comedy, pop and r&b upstairs at the Room 5. Yelp says they deserve four stars!

the dragonfly

the dragonfly

The Dragonfly is a versatile Nightclub and not boring. Some nights are reggae, other nights rock; alternative and hard rock bands are touring, mixed with regular theme club nights in the spacious venue in the middle of Theater Row. And of course DJ’s play spin funk, hip-hop, house and soul. There is always something buzzing.

Though it is a minimally designed club, the brick-walled back patio is one of the prettiest spots in town to enjoy legal vices. Celebrities sightings?

Every Friday, the Dragonfly Bar transforms into Miss Kitty’s Parlor. Miss Kitty’s is one of the funnest and most outrageous club nights in town as every Friday night boasts a different erotic theme and guests are encouraged to come dressed in costume. There are different burlesque type shows, a spanking parlor, fetish parlor, and various contests for drinks and prizes. Not to mention that Miss Kitty is an amazing mc and really gets the crowd going. The energy at these parties is amazing as everyone just gets into it and has a lot of fun! You can just let yourself go and get into the different themes.
The crowd thinks it is worth four stars. Pretty good!

the voyeur

the voyeur

What do you expect when you hear this name? Some elegant, provoking and sophisticated venue. Right? This is exactly what The Voyeur is.
The young entrepreneurs David Koral and Matt Bendik of Chosen Hospitality Group and nightlife veterans, Art and Allan Davis debuted VOYEUR the legendary space, formerly Peanuts, which housed one of the city’s most legendary nightlife parties of the 90′s, ‘Grandville’.

Inspired by the legendary lounge, Annabelle’s of London and the visually mesmerizing world created in Stanley Kubrick’s acclaimed movie Eyes Wide Shut, you feel from the moment of your arrival as if you entered an underground sanctuary. Once through the exposed brick entrance hallway guests encounter massive metal sphere chandeliers with spiked lighting, black leather drapery with brass rings, green leather chesterfield sofas and reupholstered antique chairs with brass and bronze accents.

If you are looking for a dance floor, you would not find one. There is no designated dance floor, purposely, permitting people to dance anywhere they wish, which is exactly what happens very spontaneously. But there is more: A glass box and overhead netting where topless beauties dance the night away for everyone to see.  After all, you are at The Voyeur! Three stars at Yelp, well, I don’t know why people complain about so many things… Maybe they are unhappy?

Whatever the crowd says, celebs like Lindsay Lohan, Stephanie Pratt, Jamie Foxx, Antoine Dodson, Christina Aguliera, Paris Hilton or Lady Gaga, yes Lady gaga. So it can’ t be that bad.

MI6 Club

Club MI6 West Hollywood

SBE’s latest venture is the Club MI6 at the formerly Foxtail, and it opened in 2009. It is a contemporary and sleek club with strobe lights, LED ceiling lights that flash with the music, and lots of mirrors. Some would call it futuristic James Bond alike looking. If you’re lucky you can see some celebs Stephanie Pratt, Kristin Cavallari, or Lauren Conrad.

The best is to get on a promoter list as the club is largely promoter driven: email jenlawsonproductions@yahoo.com, dreamteamla@gmail.com or paradiseguestlists@gmail.com

Directions, as it can get complicated to get there:
If you are driving down Santa Monica Blvd. You will not normally notice the MI6 and you may will miss it, so if you do miss it, just make a U turn at Almond Drive and it’s on the right side, next to the Troubadour. If you don’t want to pay for valet, instead of making a complete U turn, go into the small street which takes you to the back alley. There’s a few street parking spots; if you turn on to any other street, watch for signs that indicate permit parking only.
Music: Hip-Hop, Top 40, Dance/Electronic, Pop, Top 40
The main floor always has house music, very commercial house music.
Last but not least what says the crowd? Yelp stars 2.5 so far…

Akbar LA

AkBar LA, Silver Lake

You could say that the Akbar is stylish with its marble floors, pointed archways and sultry glowing pendant lamps, and it is oriental as the name already is promising.
It is well known as a gay bar, but c’mon this is crazy Los Angeles and a hip bar is a freaking hip bar. Paast the autographed headshots of celebs like Prince, Miss Piggy, and Drew Barrymore you can find a cozy and intimate nook through the beaded curtain, as a second room offers a little ocean of sea-green cafeteria seats. Ideal for after-work cocktails or dates. The Akbar is also known for its wild crowd as the evening wears on. Who is the crowd? Gays, lesbian, creative types from music, fashion and film from mid 20s to 50s. And it is this crowd which crowned the bar with 4 Yelp stars.
