In 2007 the old La Boheme was transformed into the contemporary Cafe La Boheme.  It is now more than 20 years in West Hollywood and has become the restaurant for special events, family reunions, birthdays and parties with its chandelier and white linen. It is a place to remember for sure.

Chef Christine Banta guides the kitchen, and creates exceptional food with multi-faceted choices: Sliders and Mac n’cheese; Shoe string fries and Crispy Blue Crab cake; Roasted Beet Salad and Wild Mushroom Risotto. Try the Pineapple Up and Down Cake as dessert and you feel like in heaven! Last but not least ther is Bohemian Happy Hour 7 days a week from 4.30 to 7.30.

Patina

Located in the spectacular Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles, you can find the Patina that is under the wings of Master Chef Joachim Splichal. This Relais & Chateaux property will pamper you seasonal tasting menus, gourmet cheeses, caviar service, and an award-winning wine list. It offers elegant al fresco dining, stylish late night cocktail bar and an impeccable service. It is the place to go for special occasions.
Their  7 course tasting menu which is $115 per person sounds high but you know, it is worth it. Just skip a couple of mediocre dinners and it’s fine.
The best is an unusual but delicious dessert and it is Basil paste with Harry’s Berries strawberries and vanilla ice cream. Too good! Yelp crowns the restaurant with 4,5 stars – as good a sit can get in LA.

den of hollywood Bar

Let’s go to the legendary “strip”, to Sunset Boulevard of Hollywood. We find a cozy hangout place: The Den of Hollywood, amongst all tourist traps of Hollywood.
It is a bar and restaurant in one plus offering DJ music to make your party successful.
Chose from a classy-looking bar with high sofas and a relaxing ambiance, a quaint area with small tables and a picturesque fireplace, or a beautifully spacious patio area complete with a long rectangular fire pit.
The drinks and food is reasonably-priced but tasty like the “Badass BELT Hamburger” or “Crispy MacCheese Balls”. Of course they have an Happy hour daily from 5-7pm and weekends from 3-7pm with even gluten-free bread. There is no cover-charge to get in which is untypical for the Strip indeed. If you feel like singing, they offer Karaoke Wednesdays; if you feel like playing board games you will find them there. Yelpers decided to give the Den three stars.

cafe beaujolais los angelesCafe Beaujolais

Eagle Rock is an artsy suburbia community of Los Angeles with a great collection of restaurants. One of them is the French Cafe Beaujolais (after the popular French red wine). If you like escargot you should order them. They are perfectly cooked and seasoned and taste better than in France. A classic is the Filet Mignon which they serve with a stuffed tomato gratin, and for dessert a chocolate mousse. Or sip an onion soup and top your diner with a creme brule. All classic French cuisine – Bon appetit!
Yelpers think it is worth 4.5 stars – that’s almost a full house!

philippe the original los angeles

Philippe The Original

It is one of the oldest and best known restaurants in Southern California, and was established in 1908 by Philippe Mathieu, who claimed the distinction of having created the “French Dipped Sandwich.”
One day in 1918, while making a sandwich, Mathieu inadvertently dropped the sliced french roll into the roasting pan filled with juice still hot from the oven. The patron, a policeman, said he would take the sandwich anyway and returned the next day with some friends asking for more dipped sandwiches. Voila, the new sandwich was born.
The sandwich consists of either roast beef, roast pork, leg of lamb, turkey or ham served on a lightly textured, freshly baked French roll which has been dipped in the natural gravy of the roasts. Swiss, American, Monterey Jack or Blue cheese may be added. To accompany your sandwich we offer a tart, tangy cole slaw, homemade potato and macaroni salads, hard boiled eggs pickled in beet juice and spices, large Kosher style, sour dill or sweet pickles, black olives and hot yellow chili peppers. Philippe’s still prepares and serves close to 300 pounds of pigs feet every week and 40 gallons of home made mustard.
Every day they serve a different soup, the breakfast menu is splendid with pancakes and French Toast, but there are not the typical French dishes like you would expect. It sounds rather American but still, the quality counts. The crowd gave Philippe four stars so far but whatever they give, Philippe will be THE original forever.

rick inn lake hughesThe Historic Rock Inn
Far away from the busy traffic of Los Angeles you will be surprised what you see North of LA. Along a popular biker route you find the Rock Inn, a landmark on the Lake Elizabeth Road up at Lake Hughes. You will never miss it, it is the only diner up there. So a stop over is obligatory.
The Rock Inn was built by Joel Hurd, Sr., in 1927 to 1929, at first a wood structure and then of steel, concrete, and stone after a fire had destroyed the first attempt. It served as an inn, store, post office, and gas station, it still has gas pumps as evidence of its long history of serving passers-by. Nowadays it is the stop for all these bikers who enjoy the ride along the Lake and down to Santa Clarita. The Inn has rooms and offers entertainment almost every night with blues bands, guitarists, karaoke and local artists.
The serve the best American food I ever tasted, all fresh ingredients and the sandwiches are just delicious.

big oaks lodge

Big OaksLodge
What’s behind the Big OaksLodge? It’s a normal biker’s stop on weekends, offering typical American dishes like hot dogs and hamburgers plus pizza and Italian dishes from the dining addition which is the second location to Cavi, an Italian restaurant in Newhall.
At this biker and hiker stop in the middle of nowhere, you can see deer and other wildlife while you dine pizza, beef carpaccio, chicken marsala, salmon penne, ravioli or plain hamburgers out-doors. Dinner is served Thursday through Sunday from 5:00pm – 10:00pm. Bouquet Canyon leads into Santa Clarita and starts off Elizabeth Lake Road at Lake Hughes. It is beautiful and scenic ride through forests and hills. Events with live music from local artists are happening I guess mostly in summer. The biker paradise has already achieved its own claim to fame with appearances in several movies, television series, and commercials including Terminator 3 – Rise of the Machines, Highway to Heaven, AT&T and Vonage.
The Lodge was built as a stagecoach stop in the 1920s, in ‘30s and ‘40s it became a hangout for stars such as Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks. Under the 27-year ownership of Diana White and John Smyth, following its brush with the Hollywood scene, Big Oaks became a boxer’s retreat and training ground, equipped with an outdoor boxing ring and cabins where would-be-contenders could reside during their training. Such boxing luminaries as Mike Quarry and Michael Dokes called the Lodge home during their development. Only recently was the ring taken out to make room on the patio for dining.

The most famous biker hangout spot in Southern California, why? Sightings of celebrity riders, great food, hundreds of cruisers and sport bikes to admire, and on a famous location: Mulholland Highway. In 1961 the Rock Store opened as a grocery store, later becoming a common motorcycle pit stop.

guisado los angeles

guisado los angelesGuisados

The newly opened taqueria in the heart of the old Boyle Heights neighborhood, makes chiles torreados like no other Mexican food place. It has established itself as the Mexican restaurant in the Eastside but is also attraceted Mexican food lovers from the Westside. They all love the tacos of griddled shrimp or diced pork chops in a mellow green sauce: the tacos of the smoky chicken tinga are very hard to resist. It’s a family owned business and with Guisados they landed another well made restaurant after they established Cook’s Tortas. The tacos are described on a blackboard behind a white tiled counter and it surely remains of Tijuana with a casual flair. The interior does not invite to celebrate your birthday there but who cares? The food is awesome, and that’s why 4.5 stars from the Yelp crowd.

guelaguetz Los AngelesGuelaguetza

A popular, family-owned spot, providing traditional, regional style dishes from the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Chilaquiles, smothered in traditional Mexican string cheese, the berry-infused horchata and the clauda, also known as the ‘Oaxacan pizza’ are some of the highlights. Some say the Tamal de mole negro is the plate to go for; there is something about the banana leaf-wrapped, mole-infused-and-covered goodness in this tamal dealie that just tastes amazing.
Guelaguetz is in the heart of Korea Town and it used to be an old Korean restaurant. It still looks Korean rather than Mexican from the outside but the inside is as Mexican as it can get. Live Music  on Sat 6-10 pm and Sun 11-3 pm with a marimba band with  3 xylophone players, a bass and a drum player. If you feel like dancing – just go ahead. On yelp four stars with more than 300 reviews – a place to go for sure.

cecconis italian restaurantCecconi’s

An Italian classic and timeless restaurant gem with chef Andrea Cavaliere who creates the best “cicchetti”, a Venetian snack, and appetizers such as grilled octopus with lemon, capers and olives. If you are hungry late at night enjoy  Carpaccio with a Venetian dressing or baked gnocchi ‘Romana’, gorgonzola. Private parties in the butterfly room are always a wonderful experience. The daily specials are rotating, and cheeses are strictly Italian but the wine list it of international provenience.
