room 5 LA

ROOM 5 Lounge in Hollywood, close to Hancock park, is the venue for an eclectic mix of new music from hot area artists and cutting edge comedy together in an upscale, intimate atmosphere. In 1937 at the famous former “Swanee”, club owner Bob Lewis suggested that budding Jazz musician Nathaniel “Nat” Cole assemble a small band to work at his Swanee Inn. It is a cozy and quite small lounge, just right to listen to some good music. Open mic night supposed to be no entry fee, but you have insist on it.
The sequence could be: First dine downstairs at the Italian Amalfi Ristorante, then enjoy artists and bands in the genres of jazz, soul, singer/songwriter, country, comedy, pop and r&b upstairs at the Room 5. Yelp says they deserve four stars!

JLounge LA
JLounge LAJ Lounge lies in The Heart Of Downtown L.A. and is a newly remodeled Lounge with over 3 million in elegance and decor. It is a 25,000 SF venue, has 2 floors, 3 bars, an open air smoking lounge, a 10,000 SF patio and everything you need to enjoy live-music and DJs.
This venue has a pretty chill atmosphere. Once you walk up the stairs, you see a decent size bar where they serve drinks around ten dollars the drink. The patio with fire pit, VIP cabanas and of course the LA skyline view is something special indeed.
The restaurant with creations from Chef Ryan McKay’s (ex-L’Orangerie) features traditional American comfort food, such as fried crab cakes, ahi tartare, grilled rib-eye steak, fish of the day and braised short ribs.

The Yelp crowd gives three stars.

hyde lounge LA

Hyde Lounge in LA @Sunset Strip

Another nightclub from SBE, a chic, intimate getaway for exclusive socializing.
LA’s nightlife czar Sam Nazarian debuts a Brit-style drinking bar and lounge behind a minimalist stone storefront and single-wooden door along Sunset Boulevard. Some call the place far too small, others think its cozy. However, it has space for about 100 people…
The first-floor lounge features leather and crocodile-trimmed upholstery with oversize Monkeywood tables under a pounded-copper ceiling shimmering in candles suspended from iridescent walls. Sophisticated. The bar features a small plate menu of fusion dishes, ranging from Japanese finger-foods to sushi, created by Katsuya Uechi. Exquisite. The prices too. Don’t forget your credit cards.
It’s the club celebrities are showing up such as Leona Lewis or Christina Aguliera.
The Yelp crowd gives it three stars; so check it out and see what they say.

MI6 Club

Club MI6 West Hollywood

SBE’s latest venture is the Club MI6 at the formerly Foxtail, and it opened in 2009. It is a contemporary and sleek club with strobe lights, LED ceiling lights that flash with the music, and lots of mirrors. Some would call it futuristic James Bond alike looking. If you’re lucky you can see some celebs Stephanie Pratt, Kristin Cavallari, or Lauren Conrad.

The best is to get on a promoter list as the club is largely promoter driven: email jenlawsonproductions@yahoo.com, dreamteamla@gmail.com or paradiseguestlists@gmail.com

Directions, as it can get complicated to get there:
If you are driving down Santa Monica Blvd. You will not normally notice the MI6 and you may will miss it, so if you do miss it, just make a U turn at Almond Drive and it’s on the right side, next to the Troubadour. If you don’t want to pay for valet, instead of making a complete U turn, go into the small street which takes you to the back alley. There’s a few street parking spots; if you turn on to any other street, watch for signs that indicate permit parking only.
Music: Hip-Hop, Top 40, Dance/Electronic, Pop, Top 40
The main floor always has house music, very commercial house music.
Last but not least what says the crowd? Yelp stars 2.5 so far…

Akbar LA

AkBar LA, Silver Lake

You could say that the Akbar is stylish with its marble floors, pointed archways and sultry glowing pendant lamps, and it is oriental as the name already is promising.
It is well known as a gay bar, but c’mon this is crazy Los Angeles and a hip bar is a freaking hip bar. Paast the autographed headshots of celebs like Prince, Miss Piggy, and Drew Barrymore you can find a cozy and intimate nook through the beaded curtain, as a second room offers a little ocean of sea-green cafeteria seats. Ideal for after-work cocktails or dates. The Akbar is also known for its wild crowd as the evening wears on. Who is the crowd? Gays, lesbian, creative types from music, fashion and film from mid 20s to 50s. And it is this crowd which crowned the bar with 4 Yelp stars.

Music: Eclectic, vintage reggae, ska, stand-up comedy, theme parties

elevate lounge LA
elevate lounge LA

Elevate Lounge

This amazing lounge towers 22 stories high above LA’s Financial District and is truly one of the most unique restaurant and club concepts of Southern California. Dine on the outdoor patio and overlook downtown LA. What  great place for a date! It is also the place where Britney Spears filmed part of Womanizer!
If you go there make sure to be dressed up otherwise the door guys  make you buy shoes at the Valet’s for thirty dollars. The cocktails like “Sex on the beach”  are well made and served within minutes. It’s an indoor smoking place, so be prepared for that. They play the same type of music every night, which is a mix of techno, hip hop and old school.

And what does the crowd say? So far not above 3 stars on Yelp. Some like it, some don’t. The usual.
